The article highlights Wisconsin State trunk Highway 42, which connects downtown Sheboygan and the Door Peninsula. In the early 1930s, the route started to blossom when Highway 42 was grafted onto former Highway 17. Shipbuilding was the main source of income in the southernmost cities along Highway 42 with the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company producing 28 submarines during World War II. Highway 42 is also home to the Peninsular Agricultural Research Station located north of Sturgeon Bay. |
