Abuse During and Before Pregnancy: Prevalence and Cultural Correlates.

Abstrakt: The article looks at the abuse of women prior and after pregnancy and the cultural norms associated with the abuse. This issue refers to the abuse of women of various ancestries including Mexican American, Puerto Rican, and Cuban American, where they were admitted in general community hospitals in Florida and Massachusetts. The study was performed through the Index of Spouse Abuse and the Abuse Assessment Screen concerning the abuse history of women while the Interview Protocol evaluated the cultural traditions and demographics related to the abuses. Results of the study showed that abuse risks factors include cultural acceptance of men hitting women, low income, and lack of education.
