The article discusses four figures of the arts society in the Barberini court in the 17th century history of Rome, with a focus on a series of music manuscripts. Topics discussed include background on the copyist and the musical authors of the manuscripts, Marc'Antonio Pasqualini, Giovanni Lotti, Giulio Cesare Raggioli, and Duke Lelio Orsini; the information on these individuals which can be derived from the study of their manuscripts in context, and the broader view these can provide of cultural life in the Barbarini court as one of the centers of Roman life during this period. |
