Abstrakt: The article examines the debate surrounding the so-called Horologium of Augustus. The monument has attracted controversy ever since its partial excavation. The author focuses on the controversy over E. Büchner’s theory, which Haselberger supports, that the obelisk was meant to serve as a sundial, with its shadow extending to Ara Pacis on the equinoxes as a tribute to Emperor Augustus.
