| Abstrakt: | The article focuses on a research study regarding the Holy Mandylion or the Image of Edessa, which held the self-portrait of Jesus Christ. It presents several accounts on how the legend was developed, such as the legend of King Abgar of Edessa and the tale of Veronica. Also, it provides an overview of how the Edessan Image entered the Christian iconography, which is during the 11th and 12th centuries. A comparison of the Vatican and Genoese Mandylions is included. |
