Abstrakt: Based on the pile-soil interaction and Terzaghi consolidation theory, a nonlinear analytical model for negative skin friction of piles in soft soil was developed. An engineering example was calculated using this model, The fundamental load transfer properties and the relationships between negative skin friction and its main influence factors were analyzed. The results show that increasing the length, diameter, elastic modulus of piles and surcharge would enhance the downdrag of piles; while increasing the compress modulus of soils around piles, cutting down the mechanical strength of pile-soil interface or destroying structural strength of soils would reduce the downdrag of piles. The above results could help to design the capacity of piles in the similar areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
