Abstrakt: The article examines the careers of twelve Michiganians during the U.S. Civil War. Those discussed include Michigan governor and volunteer soldier Russell Alger, African American soldier and former slave Joseph Clovese, who served with the U.S. Colored Troops Infantry regiment, and Union Army spy and actress Pauline Cushman Fryer.
