The article discusses the processes behind the writing, publishing, and editing of the "Atlas de Topographie Urbaine des Villes de Gaule Méridionale," with particular focus given to the discovery of ruins from the roman era in and around the southern city of Orange. Attention is also given to the role played by historians and cartographers such as Jean Guyon, Marc Heijmans, and Paul-Albert Février. The author discusses and delineates the methodology and research strategies, mentioning topics such as the history of civilization in the southern French region of Provence in general, and the history of ruins from the roman era in and around the city of Orange in particular. Also included are the names of prominent historical figures such as Joseph de La Pise, Adrien de Gasparin, and Joseph Bauza. |
