The article discusses results of a study that examines the death of a 5-month-old female Citron-crested Cockatoo, Cacatua sulphurea citrinocristata due to proventricular dilatation disease (PDD). The bird, born and hand-reared in Japan, showed signs of PDD such proventriculus distention and infiltration of lymphocytes and plasma cells in ganglia. The PDD is linked to infection with avian bornavirus (ABV), which is clustered into the genotype 2, as shown by the amplification of the virus genomes from the dead bird. |
