Selling Civil Rights: Social Entrepreneurship and the Klanwatch Project.

Abstrakt: The article presents a study on the history of the civil rights organization Klanwatch of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) from 1978 to 1987. It argues that Klanwatch and its creator SPLC co-founder Morris Dees are engaged in social entrepreneurship framework, and Dees has been successful in selling civil rights through fundraising. Brief discussions on the two events which had been crucial in the establishment of Klanwatch such as the case of developmentally disabled African American Tommy Lee Hines in May 1978 and the case of African American Michael Donald who have died under Klan violence in March 20, 1981, are provided. It adds that the creation of Klanwatch project has provided services for African Americans.
