Abstrakt: | The article presents the plight of Suleiman Ismail Abubaker who died in June 2009 after he was given a severe blow by a bouncer at a nightclub at Paceville, Malta and kicked by a passer-by as he was lost consciousness. Abubaker was a Sudanese migrant who arrived in Malta in June 2005 after fleeing Darfur in 1996. He was involved in an incident in Paceville in June 2008 where he complained of being beaten by police officers. His death led the Maltan government to consider introducing a legislation that will regularise the services of bouncer. The "Time of Malta" links the issue of unlicensed nightclub bouncers to discrimination against African visitors to nightclubs in Paceville while Moviment Graffitti cites rampant racism in Paceville. |
