Abstrakt: This article provides a biography of Spanish professor and churchman Agustín Madan. It explores his birth and upbringing during the mid-18th century in the Canary Islands and later Spain proper. The author analyzes his religious philosophy, which was molded after Erasmianism, and his interaction with the Spanish Inquisition and the Chapter of the Cathedral due to his reading of prohibited books. His relationship with Pedro de Campomanes and his study and teaching of linguistics is also examined.
