The article discusses the implications of the six-month certification requirement for terminal illnesses of the Medicare Hospice Benefit, and its impact on physicians, potential patients and providers in relation to access and cost in the U.S. A patient is eligible for the Medicare Hospice Benefit when diagnosed with a terminal illness and received a prognosis of six months or less, with a certification signed by the primary care physician of the patient and the medical director of the hospice. |
