This research is based on an experiment that was conducted on cell phone mediated and non-cell phone mediated electronic bulletin board systems and compares and contrasts the number of messages and content of messages relating to two different discussion topics, new ideas/proposals, "Topic 1" and evaluation of existing material, "Topic 2" that were posted on both of these systems. The results of the study showed that the number of messages posted in response to both of the topics tended to be higher among users of the cell phone mediated electronic bulletin board system. The content of the messages also shows that a large number of new ideas/proposals were put forward in response to Topic 1. In comparison there were few messages that expressed carefully thought out ideas and a lot of superficial conceptions in response to Topic 2. These results indicate the use of a cell phone mediated electronic bulletin board is suitable for the proposal of new ideas or brainstorming however not so suitable under conditions where it is necessary to exchange opinions that have been carefully examined and thought out.
