The article explores the role of small silver mining businesses in the economic development of the Pachuca y Real del Monte mining district (Mexico) in the late 19th and early 20th century. The authors discuss how the silver mining business was impacted by the depreciation of silver in international markets (1873) and by the monopolistic practices of the Compañia de Minas Pachuca y Real del Monte. They also consider the business innovations introduced by small mining businesses and reflect on their incidence in the mining boom of the early 20th century. |
