The article discusses teaching and assessment strategies for English language learners (ELLs) or Limited English proficient (LEP) students in physical education in public schools in California. ELLs have the highest dropout rate in the U.S. as they lag behind their native-born peers because they face difficulty in demonstrating content knowledge. The proficiency levels of ELLs and some ways to develop conducive learning environments for them are tackled. A description of specially designed academic instruction in English (SDAIE) strategies is provided. |
