The article discusses a study on the indications, efficacy and complications of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). It indicates the main objective of ovulation induction to increase chances of pregnancy with minimum risk of complications such as multiple pregnancies and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). It provides the treatment strategies including ovulation induction of least one follicle and superovulation of more than one follicle and the oral medications for COH including Clomiphene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) containing estrogen agonist and antagonist properties and Letrozole as an alternative to clomiphene. It suggests that while the use of gonadotropins provides the highest pregnancy rate, it should not be used first line for anovulatory patient. |
