The article analyzes the establishment, activities, and relations of the Service des beaux-arts, des antiquités et des monuments historiques in Morocco under the French protectorate from 1912 to 1925. It discusses General Hubert Lyautey, who was also the Commissaire Résident général and established an administrative and legislative system related to the conservation and restoration of historical monuments in Morocco. Also mentioned is the dahir (decree) of November 26, 1912, concerning the protection of Morocco's cultural heritage which includes Islamic buildings, art objects, and public Habous, pious foundations for cult, educational, and goodwill purposes. Further topics include French cultural heritage policies and the institution's complete reorganization in 1920. |
