The article features several musicians who played rhythm and blues (R&B) and started the rock and roll music in the 1940s. From 1942 to 1949, singer and alto saxophonist Louis Jordan ranked number in R&B charts. The Ink Spots quartet in Indianapolis placed 50 songs on national pop and R&B charts. The hits of singer Dinah Washington include those that are overtly sexual such as "Long John Blues," and "I Know How to Do It." |
