The article provides information on archaeological excavations conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley/University of Wisconsin Colleges Archaeological Field School at the Schaefer I site located near Whitehall, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. Findings from surface surveys, shovel testing and excavations indicate that the site likely served as a temporary encampment for Late Paleoindian, Archaic and Woodland period cultures. Artifacts recovered include Scottsbluff points, Archaic points, animal remains and ceramics. |
