Abstrakt: The article explores the lessons learned from the experiences of German river association Erftverband of working with membrane bioreactor (MBR) system. MBR performance was said to be reduced in sustained operation with biomass concentrations of over 15 kilograms (kg) of mixed liquor suspended solids per cubic meter. It mentions that optimising the operational regime and the plant equipment can reduce the energy consumption of MBR technology. Process optimisation was found to be integral to the economic efficiency of MBR.
