Abstrakt: The article reviews the causal factors of rib stress fractures (RSF) sustained by rowers. Factors that contribute to rib loading and those that affect the response to rib loading are explained. Muscle action, Serratus anterior (SA) and abdominal muscles, joint mobility, stroke technique and equipment can affect the forces that act on the rib cage. Bone geometry and density, joint and muscle factors, training, and gender influence response to rib loading.
