Abstrakt: A biography of French engraver and medicine illustrator Jean Chièze is presented. Chièze was born on July 18, 1898 in Valence, France. He studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Lyon, France, worked as an illustrator for a company specialized in silk, and became a public school teacher in 1923. He became a notorious wood engraver and illustrated the 1935 reprinted version of the book "Pantagruel," by French physician and writer François Rabelais.
