Abstrakt: The article discusses the continuing record increases in cotton prices in terms both of price and volatility. The factors pushing cotton prices include the steadily increasing demand caused by growth in China, India and Brazil, and the ethanol/biofuels mandates launched in the U.S., European Union and the rest of the world. The lack of stocks outside the U.S./China axis, the overall underestimation of consumption, and the prospect of the futures market are also noted.
