The study was conducted with an objective to appraise and compare the knowledge level of the farmers on the recommended bivoltine sericultural technologies, to assess the extent of adoption of these practices, to find out the relationship of socio-economic factors with ' knowledge and adoption levels, and to identify the constraints/reasons and suggesting measures for increasing the knowledge and adoption level. The data were collected from 225 farmers belonging to traditional (Anantapur and Chittoor) and non traditional (Costal districts) of Andhra Pradesh. From the findings, it was observed that most of the farmers were reluctant to adopt recommended new technologies due to various socio- economic and biological factors. The factors such as education, extension contact and cocoon yield had shown positive significant relationship with knowledge and adoption level. However, age and experience of respondents had shown negative relationship with knowledge. Likewise the variables such as area under mulberry and experience had negative relationship with adoption. Non-availability of inputs in time, high cost of fertilizers, lack of finance, lack of proper knowledge, scarcity of labour, lack of technical guidance, traditional practice etc., were the main constraints for partial/non adoption. The study concludes by suggesting measures for increasing the knowledge and adoption levels of farmers regarding bivoltine sericultural technologies in the study area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
