The article looks at the trends and implications of the upcoming elections for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq. According to the author, the elections in Kurdistan is vital for the region since it is fueled by the civil society's demand for democratization, Baghdad's interest to control the KRG, and pressures from the neighboring states. Also explored is the possibility of the victory of the unified Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. |
