The article discusses former French colonies in sub-Saharan Africa with reference to literature written in French in the region in the period from independence in 1960 to 2010. Topics discussed include trends in sub-Saharan French language literature surrounding the concept of the lack of independence in the newly formed countries; the theme of generational conflict, particularly in the work of Congolese journalist and writer Guy Menga; and the government use of African traditions as a form of combating revolutionary sentiment. |
