Abstrakt: The article discusses the effect of a religious revival in Owensboro, Kentucky on the preaching style of Baptist preacher and minister J. Frank Norris. Various legends concerning the Norris' experiences at the Owensboro revival are analyzed by the author, which he believes to be conflations of a story about Norris preaching at Owensboro's Third Baptist Church. The author goes on to provide a chronology of events he believes to document Norris' experiences as a preacher from 1909 to 1912. Norris' description of his spiritual awakening at the revival in his sermon "A Call to First Baptist Church, Fort Worth" is examined. His subsequent adoption of sensational preaching methods and transformation to fundamentalism are also explained.
