Abstrakt: The authors analyze the static forces in the wood shaft from which they developed a mathematical model for the relationship between taper or graduated diameter and camber or the inward or concave pre-bending of the stick. They note that a violin's bow taper and camber are important tools used by expert bowmakers. They claim that their model predicts a preferred camber for any given taper. They suggest that additional physical constraints must be imposed to determine either the optimum taper of camber separately.
