Abstrakt: The article offers information on a study which explored the prevalence of avian influenza in migrating birds in Taiwan from 1998 to 2007. During the period, 29,287 samples of avian influenza virus (AIV) were collected from wild ducks, shorebirds and other wild birds in the wetlands around Taiwan and outside the Penghu and Kinmen islets. Hemagglutination and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were utilized to identify AIV in the allantoic fluid. Study authors found that the prevalence of AIV in Taiwan is lower than in Europe and America, which is speculated to be due to the high air temperature in Taiwan.
