The article focuses on identifing whether an unknown carbohydrate is a monosaccharide or disaccharide by using ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) reagents. It says that CAN is a single electron oxidant used for organic substrates oxidation. It mentions that the yellow solution of diammonium hexanitratocerate(IV) in dilute nitric acid is the commonly known CAN reagent. The preparation of the reagents for a test of the identification, the procedure and the results are discussed. |
