Introduction: Endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (EDCR) is a procedure of treating an obstructed naso- lacrimal duct (NLD) endoscopically. It provides an option towards a scarless surgery. In order to maintain the patency, it was thought that stenting is required post-operatively. ¡ Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the outcome in term of complication, patency and the duration of surgery in both stenting and non-stenting group. j Methodology: This was a cross sectional study at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Kedah, Malaysia. Forty-eight patients were included in the study, 23 of them with stent and the rest without stent. The demographic data, post-operative patency, duration of operation and complication were evaluated. Results: EDCR without stenting showed higher patency result post-operatively (95.9% compared to 80.7%). The operative time for the non-stenting group was shorter and complications were less in the group. Conclusion: EDCR without stenting has higher patency rate, shorter operation time and lower post-operative complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
