The article discusses the need for the re-emergence and realization of the hero concept of Americans after the September 11, 2001 Twin Tower attacks in New York. It states the belief of social studies educators on a good way to promote heroism among students, which is by inculcating values exemplified by heroes. However, it states the concept of heroism has been threatened due to the rise of the late-20th-century movement of personalism. Despite this, educators have devised an effective approach in teaching about heroes that would empower students' imagination and at the same time, humanize them. Moreover, the article says that the ultimate paradox lies in the idea of the heroes' return for they have always existed Americans. |
