The article discusses a study on interspecific variation in palatability and its impact on the cospecialization of antipredator defenses in sea hares. The study procedure included comparing the passive chemical defenses of several opisthobranchs including Dolabrifera dolabrifera, Phyllaplysia taylori, and Aplysia californica, and their skin and body wall were homogenized into standardized food pellets. The palatability of such pellets were assayed through the measurement of their consumption by the Pagurus samuelis, common intertidal hermit crab. |
