| Abstrakt: |
The article presents a case study on increased taxation on smoking and its effects in saving lives by reducing cigarette consumption. It reports on a survey World Health Organization (WHO) which finds a reduction of cigarette consumption by 4 percent for every 10 percent rise in its prices and the benefits of such steps taken by the local government of New York City. It presents criticism to such tax as the smoker's shift to low quality cigarettes, further spoils the health of the smoker. |
