The article presents a population study of the roding woodcock, Scolopax rusticola, in the Vormsi Island Woodcock Sanctuary in Estonia. The study was conducted during the 2006 and 2007 breeding seasons by choosing suitable observation places including open areas, grasslands and clearings. 46 woodcock roding locations were studied in 2006 while 31 locations were evaluated in 2007. Results reveal that there were approximately 15 to 20 woodcocks present in Vormsi Island during the breeding seasons. |
