Abstrakt: The article focuses on the ecological mechanisms that intimately link flood and population growth of Lates calcarifer or barramundi in the river system of Australia. Studies revealed that flooding in the river system promotes the growth of tiny alga that grow in the flood plain when the land is underwater. This algae serves as food for the bony bream fish and catfish which the barramundi feeds on. The study concluded that flood fuels the food chain that provides prey for the fish, hence the more floods, the more barramundi.
