The article offers information on a study which determined the 5α-reductase type 1 isozyme activity and its inhibition by novel steroidal oxazolines using a radiosubstrate in vitro incubation method. The compounds reportedly contain several derivatized phenyl substituents linked to the exo-heterocyclic moiety. It mentions that the iozyme is involved in the metabolism of the androgen steroid hormones, while its inhibitors indicate a novel pharmacological treatment for several androgen-dependent diseases. |
