This article explores the concept of domesticity by reflecting on the narratives of two captains' wives, Abby Jane Morrell and Mary Wallis, in the books "Narrative of a Voyage, 1829-1831" and "Life in Feejee: Five Years Among the Cannibals, 1844-1849." Morrell and Wallis have both enhanced the domestic principles that shaped them. Both have called for the religious conversion and civilization of the natives. They have also associated virtues of feminine with moral dignity. |
