The author tries to draw a positive portrait of François-Etienne, explaining that he was a modern and cultured man, who traveled a lot throughout Europe unlike other monarchs. François-Etienne de Lorraine is described as a "grand homme," a great man, which according to the philosophers from the Age of Enlightenment's definition is a man with values, recognized for his human qualities. |
