The article analyzes the history of competition and the success and failure of the Bathurst Motorcyle Speedway in New South Wales from 1928-32. Factors that characterized the first season of speedway in 1928-29 include the promotion undertaken by the Bathurst Speedway Co. (BSC), the commercial relationship with the Bathurst Council, and advertising. Two factors mitigated the impact of economic depression in Bathurst including the unemployment in service industries and the reduced adult award wage rates. Local disputes also affected the BSC promotion. |
