The article discusses various travels throughout his country undertaken by revolutionary Mexican president Lázaro Cárdenas. He exploited press coverage of those journeys as a platform for national education and consolidation, social integration, and the creation of a national consciousness. The local contacts Cárdenas made in his travels coupled with his personal charisma are said to have promoted his authority and popularity among the populace, which led to a political system that persisted in Mexico until the 1980s. |
