Abstrakt: The aim of this study is to report the occurrence of urinary calculi adherent to the hair of the vulva region in water buffalos in Santo Antônio do Tauá, State of Pará, Brazil. The vulva region of 93 females of the Mediterranean breed, of different ages, raised extensively on Brachiaria brizantha pastures were inspected. Urine samples from 13 animals that had large amounts of material adherent to the hair of the vulva were collected. An epidemiological survey was conducted based on information obtained from the owner and investigated in loco, where information about age, use of mineral supplements and grazing management were collected. Urinalysis was performed in the Laboratório de Patologia Clínica of the Central de Diagnóstico Veterinário of Universidade Federal do Pará. It was collected hair from the region of the vulva of some animals with the material attached, which was then separated, weighed one gram and sent to the Laboratório de Mineralogia of the Departamento de Geologia of Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, for crystallographic study of the material using the diffraction of X-rays. It is concluded that the material present in the vulva region consisted of phosphate of calcium (Monetite). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
