Abstrakt: The article discusses a study about the tensile strain capacity prediction methodology developed by ExxonMobil for welded pipelines. Validation of the generalized tensile strain capacity equations done against full-scale test data for X64 to X80 pipes are described. It is found that the equations accurately predict the observed failure mode in the full-scale tests and the tensile strain capacity. It suggests that the equations can shape the basis of a multi-tier engineering critical assessment (ECA) procedure for strain-based design of welded pipelines.
