The article focuses on a study which investigated the in vitro effectiveness of two herbal extracts, Samento and Banderol, and the antibiotic doxycycline, in eliminating B. burgdorferi, a bacterium that causes Lyme disease, at different stages of its mutation. The study was borne out of a need to look for a treatment for the tick-borne, multi-systemic disease which has not responded to the administration of various antibiotics. It reveals that both herbal agents have significant effects on all forms of the bacterium, which doxycycline did not produce. |
