The article reports on a controversial 15th century manuscript that belonged to the family of Thomas William Coke of Norfolk. The manuscript containing a collection of prayers about the life of Jesus, attracted the scholars interested in documents written by and for women. The publication of excerpts of the manuscript by Alexandra Barratt in her anthology "Women's Writing in Middle English" exposed errors in her transcription that brought about confusion. Furthermore, the published prayers are original and addressed to females. |
