Abstrakt: | The article discusses the significance of the transport of Peruvian archival documents and cultural artifacts to the private collection of Chilean politician Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna during the Chilean occupation of Lima (Peru) in 1881-1883. The author considers the removal of Peruvian cultural property in the context of the discourse of superiority put forth by Chilean intellectuals such as Vicuña Mackenna in the late 19th century. The role of historical memory and cultural property in the construction of competing national identities is also considered. |
