Fertility preservation in cancer patients.

Abstrakt: The article discusses the etiology and effects of cancer treatment on human fertility and presents the current and emerging options for the preservation of fertility in patients with cancer. Various regimens that have an effect on fertility are alkylating agents, cisplatin and analogs, vinca alkaloids, antimetabolites and anthracycline antibiotics. Fertility preservation options for female cancer patients include ovarian transposition (oophoropexy), gonadotrophin-releasing hormone, sex steroids, progesterone (P4), apoptotic inhibitors, cryopreservation of embryos. Fertility preservation options for male cancer patients include semen cryopreservation, hormonal therapy, testicular tissue cryopreservation and in-vitro spermatogenesis.
