Abstrakt:	The article discusses ways to develop keyboard percussionists who can read music. It explains the need to develop all-around percussionists who are functional and even proficient at all of the percussion instruments. Steps to develop reading instead of memorizing include reinforcing note reading, using their peripheral vision and using a smart approach to reading full-length music. Options on teaching percussion instruments simultaneously with wind instruments and fostering a basic understanding of music building blocks are offered.
