The author reflects on the novel strain relaxation of fibroblasts in the marginal periodontium which is said to be the common cause of alveolar bone resorption. He notes that the novel hypothesis is based on observations made on patients and on experimental animals that underwent mucoperiosteum flap surgery procedures. He states that strain relaxation of gingival and periodontal fibroblasts can also be achieved on the compression side of the teeth during orthodontic tooth movement. He also explains the therapy for alveolar bone resorption. |
